From Argentina by ferry: Yellow Fever Certificate required?

We are arriving from Buenos Aires to Montevideo by ferry/hydrofoil for a 3 night stay before returning to Buenos Aires the same way. I have read that Uruguay requires to see a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate or Exemption Certificate from travellers entering from certain countries. 1) Is Argentina one of those countries? 2) When is this documentation requested for water entries? 3) Do they accept the Exemption Certificate? 4) Is this worth asking the nearest Uruguayan embassy about, or is it more variable locally?

Really? First time I hear that yellow fever certificate is needed to travel to Uruguay. It's certainly not required if arriving from Argentina.

I have arrived flights from Peru and Brazil, and it wasn't required either.

As above, we have never been requested to have or show a Yellow Fever Certificate (or exemption) - and we have crossed many times by Ferry and by Air.

Thank you, that sounds like good news! We've asked our travel agent, too; I will post her response.

We are about to leave Buenos Aires to Montevideo by bus, neither of us have the yellow fever certificate, did anyone have any problems entering without it? Thanks

You won't have a problem entering Montevideo. Yellow Fever vaccinations are not required for entry into Uruguay.

Enjoy your trip.

I've entered Uruguay by bus, by boat and by airplane. Never been asked.

HOWEVER, just something cool if you remember to watch for it. At all entries by vehicle, including if you bring a car in on the ferry, you will see two very short and shallow pools on the road that the car's tires must drive through. It is water mixed with chemicals to sterilize any contaminants that the tires may be carrying in with them.

The thing with the water for the tires was for the mouth and ...... desease of the cattle. Not a problem anymore, that was in 2005!
