Abu Dhabi on a Friday morning

We will be in transit at Adu Dhabi and will have from 7am until 1pm on Friday 29th March to enjoy the city before heading back to the airport for a later flight.

Friday is a holy day and we expect much will be closed during the hours available to us.

What can we do? Are any shops open? Is the

Corniche public beach open for swimming, cafe, lounging? Can a shower be obtained there?

With thanks, David

You are right that much is closed but you could go to the beach and it will be nice around 8/9 am in late March. There are sun loungers (chargeable), showers and cafes at the beach.

The malls that are fully open on Friday morning (from 10am) include Khalidiya Mall, Al Wahda Mall and Mushrif Mall. The supermarkets are open from 8 am.

7 am until 1 pm is not much time. If your flight arrives 7 am you probably wouldn't get into the city until 8 or later and you need to allow enough time to get back to the airport and check in. You need to be at the gate at a minimum of 45 minutes before departure and assuming you already have your boarding pass you still need to allow for that and a contingency for unexpected delays allow at least 2 hours from leaving the city centre to your departure time.

2 hrs to leave the airport and reach the city. So by the time you reach the city or corniche it will be 9am.

You have to leave the city at least 11 am.

Between 9 am to 11 am, you can only stroll around the city or explore some malls.

I'm doing something similar, arriving on a midnight flight and out again on a 1.35pm flight on a Friday in August. I was rather looking forward to the Falcon Hospital and the Grand Mosque, but alas, both closed. I've heard there are some other architectural type things to see, but they appear to be well hidden.

Not really into the beach or shopping malls.

Any suggestions ?
