Transit on Friday in Doha?

We are taking Qatar Airways to Iran and stopover 20 hours in Doha. The day happens to be Friday, and we plan to visit the Museum of Islamic Art and corniche and Souq waqif, may be drive by/take a look at Al Jazeera HQ......

1. just wondering, Friday will be the prayer day, when will these places open on Friday? only afternoon?

2. read a lot postings on how difficult to find taxi in Doha, given the limited time, should we hire a car with driver for 8 hours so we don't have to worry about how to get from point to point and back hotel/airport? How much will that be? any reliable company to recommend?

Do we need to call to book in advance (several days b4 we land)?

3. Can we just use US$/Euro in Doha, for shopping and meals? Do we need to exchange to local currency for just 20 hrs stopover? where to exchange, at the airport or in town? Can we exchange any extra money left back to US$/Euro in the airport when we leave?

Pls advise.

thx

The souq opens on a Friday around 3pm I think. The museum website has opening times listed.

You can't pay in euros or usd outside the airport. If you have usd then you will get almost the fixed exchange rate of 3.63 to one usd. If you use the exchange at the airport to change it back into dollars then you won't lose much as it will be close to the fixed rate.

You can change in the shopping mall exchange booth but must show I d.

Taxis are not really a problem to get. If you want a driver you could contact fox limos. They are a good company.
