My wife and I are just back from Oman and for us the Oman Self-drive Tour was a great experience. Paul Sistac who organises the tour is absolutely meticulous in his briefing on arrival, his notes on routes and activities and his use of a dedicated GPS to ensure that we have no difficulty getting around. Road conditions are excellent and we only used the 4-wheel drive to climb up a steep, rocky track to a fantastic hotel and to travel a short distance across the desert to the very comfortable camp where we spent a night. The accommodation was mostly very good indeed, food excellent and the itinerary took us through a varied and always fascinating landscape. We would warmly recommend this tour.

In fact we did book with Oman self drive tours and had a fantastic trip in October. I completely second your opinion of Paul, the planning was faultless, briefing on arrival was excellent, car was perfect. it was a great experience and one of the best bits was Paul's preloaded GPS with all the routes we needed to exact detail. we would have really struggled without that. we had some great adventures on a trip mixed with mountain hikes, canyoning and couple of nights in a luxury hotel (alila). Brilliant and beautiful.

Paul was first class and we could not have had such a fab holiday without his invaluable input.

I'm thinking why one should need a tour operator for a self drive tour? You just book your rental car and the hotels you want and drive away. No problem and no need to pay more.

Sure, that can be fine, especially if you have visited before. For us we had not driven in the Middle East before and had no contacts in the country so it really valuable to have advice, inside knowledge and recommendations. It meant our time there was filled with great experiences and visits to truly magical places off the beaten track, that we never would have found on our own. We also appreciated the detailed walking instructions for some hiking that we did, we had hunted the internet and not found anything close to that.

So, not for everyone perhaps but for us absolutely worth the extra cost.

Pour ce deuxième voyage à Oman, nous avons confié notre projet à Paul de Oman Self Drive Tours. Paul nous a réservé le 4 x 4, prévu l’itinéraire que nous lui avions demandé (nous souhaiterions, en effet, traverser par les pistes), réservé les hôtels et les repas du soir.

Nous enfoncerons cette fois-ci plus loin sur les pistes du Hajar Occidental, des palmeraies de la Trouée de Samail et le plateau du Jebel Akhdar.

Nous continuerons par la région de Nizwa et d’Al Hamra jusqu’au Djebel Shams, à proximité du Grand Canyon. Nous traverserons le Djebel par une piste spectaculaire, explorerons le superbe village perché de Wakan puis reviendrons sur Muscat via le fort de Nakhl.

Indeed, Oman self drive provides a GPS where the exact route of the personalized circuit is transcribed, including all possible excursions between 2 stages. In addition, we are given an extremely detailed Road book, designed by Paul Sistac describing with a lot of information all the places visited (both culturally and to navigate on the site). it is very useful and perfectly secure. Paul Sistac organizes a tailor-made trip, with choices of varied lodgings, original for some of them.

It was therefore a very successful trip, in beautiful landscapes and in contact with a very kind population. So don't hesitate to entrust your project to him
