4 day mini break in Lebanon

We're a family of 4 travelling to Beirut in April this year. We're hoping to do day trips around Lebanon but base ourselves in Beirut.

Our 2 children are 6 and 10yrs of age.

Does anyone have any tourist places they recommend to visit that are family friendly and good for the kids as well as adults? We have already booked our accommodation so I don't need any help on that.

Also, how are the roads like to travel on over there once you get out of Beirut? Hoping they are a little quieter!

Any suggestions on an intinenary would be most useful.

Many thanks

Nature reserves are family friendly. Your children can hike in one of the six nature reserve located in Lebanon especially the Shouf Barouk Cedars Nature Reserve www.shoufcedar.org

For a suggestions of itinerary simply check www.lebanonroad.blogspot.com/p/trips.html

Thanks

Jeita caves are excellent and an be combined with Byblos. Baalbek is also a wonderful experience, just take care with Children at archaeological sites as there are unprotected precipices, holes etc which are not secured.

Have a great time in Lebanon.

MUST DO:

Jeita caves half day, (20 mins from Beirut)

Harissa (Lady of Lebanon) on the way back; you get there by cable car from the sea side (15 mins from Jeita)

Byblos is a great half day, you can have a guided tour of Phoenician ruins seafood lunch on the marina and shop or walk through the old souks. Night-time the souk becomes outdoor pubs, amazing ambience, but not for kids really.

Downtown Beirut is an option for night-time with kids, its dozens of cafes on the sidewalk, the whole downtown area is blocked off from cars, so get the kids ice creams and you can have a coffee and a gorgoeus stroll around the Clocktower, and the Beirut Souks (Make sure you go to both areas its a 2 min walk from one to the other). 2 mins away on foot are the roman baths and the government palace (grand serail) water fountains and grand stairs you can sit for a while. security guard and even a few friendly police men walk all around downtown, its super safe.

Baalbeck is breathtaking, but you will definitely encounter a few sales men trying to sell you not-so-ancient coins and scarves and stuff... ignore, be firm with them.

Have a great trip!

Thanks for the info. We had an excellent stay and look forward to going back one day to explore some more. The highlights of our trip were the Jeita caves, skiing, walking around Downtown Beirut, and our trip down South to Sidon and Tyre. Thanks again.

Just arrived home from this beautiful country and allready planning another visit. The weather in April was warm and evenings ok (teashirts)

I would recomend staying at the Mayflower as in has that old Beirut feel and is central to Hamra.

Must do the walk from pigeon rocks and corneche.

Walk Beirut as it educates you about Beiruts history and is non biased.

Nakhal tours to Baalbek,Anjar and Ksara.

American univercity, the grounds are fab.

Lebanese people are friendly, you feel safe as the security is good and I experienced no problems

Watch out for over charging taxi drivers. $5 dollers from east to west Beirut.

There tried to charge double and after walking away reduced the price
