Getting to and from the airport from Tel Aviv

I came back this morning from the Airport at 0530 AM. The price for a taxi is at this hout (higher because it was still night fare) 112 shekel + 5 shekel airport tax + 3 shekel for each suitcase. During day time the basic price is lower. So one an expect to pay 20-25$ for a taxi.

I asked about Jerusalem of course. The basic night fare is 212, day time is 188 shekel (not sure) plus the tax and suitcases.

These are official fare by the ministry of transport.

As fot Tel Aviv, If one takes the train and later a taxi he won't save much money, but it will take much longer and less comfortable. The price for the train id 12 shekel, taxi will be 25-30, total in $ will be about 10.

The train is great to travel to beyond Tel Aviv, like Haifa. For Jerusalem one has taxi or Sherut.

To get to the airoprt from Tel Aviv - I took a taxi, it was at 0600 AM and it was 95 shekel. I used Moniot Azrielli (never used them before) phone number 03-6081333

I will be leaving for the US at 5:30am Israel time.

What time would you suggest me to go to the airport?

Am I allow to stay a few hours at the airport if I go there, let say at 11pm?

You need to arrive at the airport at least three hours in advance. I suppose you could get their even earlier if you wish, but I'd just stay in the city of departure (Tel Aviv or Jerusalem) and head out about 1:30 a.m.

I've done that flight. It is a killer -- the day that won't ever end.

Thanks Douglas for your advice.

Is it safe to go to the airport at 1:30am for a female traveler?

It is safe to go to the airport at 1:30 - you take a (licensed) taxi and you're there. I don't think the airport closes during the night at all but there aren't many sitting areas in the entrance and if they don't let you check in when you come, you might be stuck very uncomfortably. I would pay for another night at the hotel, go to bed early and go to the airport - by the way, if you are in Tel Aviv and you travel by taxi, you can leave the hotel at 2:00 - the airport is close by.

Thanks Anon for your suggestion.

I will be from Jerusalem, and is their any sherut available at that time of the day (1:30am)?

Nonyoe, lots of people will be going to the airport at that hour, including from Jerusalem, as there are many flights headed west toward Europe and the US at that time. So you will definitely be able to take a sherut, though that will add somewhat to your travel time because they will stop at several hotels before heading to the airport. Or you could take a private cab for about $60.

Anon is right -- just stay at the hotel and get at least a few hours of sleep. I've made that trip four or five times, so I feel your pain! But don't worry about safety at the airport, because it will be busy.

Many thanks for the information

One more adive please:

My tour will spend 2 days in TA, 2 days in Tiberias, 1 day in Dead Sea and 3 days in Jerusalem.

After the tour ends, I will stay another 10 days in Jerusalem by myself. I plan to spend 3 full days to really take a good look in Jerusalem. For the rest of 7 days, do you have any suggestion to where I can go beside the places my tour company takes me? Is there any reputable tour company that you may want to refer?

Your input is always greatly appreciated.

I'd spend 3 days in Haifa and another day in Tel Aviv.
