What sites are open in Jerusalem over the weekend.

We will be in Jerusalem from Wed-Monday and realize that Friday is a Muslim holiday and Saturday is the Jewish Sabbath. Can someone tell me what museums, sites and any other activity are open during that time? And what about public transportation- is that shut down as well? Are taxis available? Thank you!

The Muslim holiday may effect some Muslim shops in the Old City but it will not be felt by most visitors to the city. The Sabbath means that all kosher restaurants will be closed. Museums in the Jewish Quarter will be closed. ( but the Tower of David Museum is open on Saturday, closed Friday) The Israel Museum, the zoo etc. are all open. Yad V'shem is closed. Many tourists, --both Jewish and non-Jewish enjoy going to the Kotel to see the start of Sabbath. If you do go remember cellphones and photos are absolutely prohibited.

Public transportation does stop Friday before Shabbat and doesn't resume until after the Shabbat ends on Sat. night. There are taxis.

If you share what you would like to do on these days-we can let you know if it is open.

Almost forgot--others use Sat. to take a day trip to Masada/Dead Sea.

The Id al Ahda holiday starts on Thursday night which commences with the weekend here in Israel and ends on Sunday night. While Moslems sites will not be open in those areas of the city (including most shops in the Old City), many other sites will be open and you will not be want for what to do. The only place to stay away from is where there are large Moslem populations as the traffic will be horrific and the crowds great. No going up to the Temple Mount and best to stay away from the Mt. of Olives.

For museums see www.ilmuseums.com - the site lists all museums, subject and their opening hours.
