Approximate Cost for Bus and Guide

Can someone please give me a rough idea as to how much it may cost approximately per day for 5 days to have a bus with a guide for 20 - 25 people.

Can the bus driver also serve as the guide?

We would be staying primarily in the Tel Aviv and Jerusalem area with visit to Ein Gedi and Masada one day.

Your bus driver is not legally permitted to guide you. According to Israeli law, a licensed guide must accompany all groups by bus.

The good news is that tour guides charge by the day and not by the person. Most guides will charge you the same daily fee whether he/she is guiding one person or 25. The more persons in your group, the more cost effective a private guide becomes.

I suggest you first enter a dialog with your guide. He/she can then work with you to create a custom itinerary for your group and also hire the bus and driver for you when needed.

The cost depends on your itinerary and mileage of each day.

For 20 and up the minimum transportation will be midibus (35 seats) since the largest minibus you can get is 20 seats (so with the guide you’ll have only 19 seats available).

The deference between a midibus to a full size bus (53 seats) is around 15-20%) and if you'll ask me it is worth it since it is way more comfortable.

Treepalm, the first 2 answers were given by two guides and are sound advice.. They are frequent contributors on htis forum and have gained the respect of our little community of TA experts.

There are guides who drive buses but I would not suggest using this venue as the driver must concentrate on driving a bus which is not an easy feat in this country. All this being said I would suggest checking with various bus companies on their daily rates, only after you have an itinerary as they quote prices according to kilometrage, as previously mentioned. There are many such companies such as Maya Tours, Tours R Us, Egged Tours, Bon Tour to name a few. Expect a minium of $400 per day for a bus with local kilometrage.

As far as the actual cost is concerned, this is impossible to tell without an itinerary. It will depend on where you are driving, how long each day, if you will be providing housing for the driver and guide, time of year, and other factors. Having said that, a ballpark figure would start around $800 a day for the bus alone, plus you must have a guide, and other fees.

You should contact either a private guide who works with larger groups or a tour company such as Eshet Incoming for example, who will work with you to book a bus, provide guiding, block the hotel rooms (presuming you want to stay together in the same place), arrange an itinerary. You should give them what you want to spend per person for the services provided and they will work with your budget.

Just saw Chana's posting. Chana is also a guide and when she says half the price of what I say, you can see the value of using a guide to help you book!

It is, IMO more important that you select a guide that best serves your needs then find a bus. The guide will be able to arrange for appropriate transportation. Inasmuch as the guide will make or break your trip--that is where the effort should be focused.

Hi, Treepalm -

Which tour guide and bus company did you use? What was the final cost of each? Were you satisfied?

This is an old thread and there is a good chance that the original poster has already made the trip and is not checking it. I would send him or her a private message with that inquiry.

Good luck!
