Tipping Tour Guides

I will be visiting Israel with a Tour Group for 2 weeks and on my own for one week. What is the customary Tipping expected by the Organized Tour Guide, Bus Driver, Hotels housekeeping, Restaurants, and Taxi drivers?

This is a matter of personal discretion. There are no hard-and-fast rules for tipping in Israel. It's customary to tip hotel personnel, tour guides, group tour bus drivers and wait staff in restaurants. You may use the following as a guideline:

· 10-15% of the total bill is the average tip in restaurants- the tip usually cannot be added on to the credit card bill but needs to be paid in cash.

· Porters: $1- $2 per bag per person.

· Hotel Waiter/Waitress: $1.00 per person (dinner)

· Chamber Maid: 50¢- $1:00 per person, per day

· Group Tour Guide: $5.00-$7:00 per person, per day

· Private Car Tour Guide: $10 - $15 per person, per day

· Bus Driver: $2.00- $3:00 per person, per day

· While tipping is not mandatory in taxis, visitors are very welcomed to do so.

You may find that tips are already included in your tour fees.

However, even if that is the case, it is still customary to give an extra tip to a tour guide IF THEY HAVE DONE A GOOD JOB. Also, if they have done some extra service for you, this should be considered.

Normally, this would be $1-2USD/day for a guide, $1/day for the driver.
