Getting Around Bethlehem

We are traveling to the Middle East in May and will be spending a night in Bethlehem (we know Jerusalem is close by, but want to spend at least one night in the West Bank). We have been reading everyone's comments about Bethlehem and have some questions:

1) We are staying near the Church of Nativity. How far is the separation wall art done by Banksy and others? Looking at other threads, its hard to determine whether we can walk to this or whether we should hire a driver. We are also having trouble locating a good map (Lonely Planet's leaves something to be desired)

2) What is the going rate for hiring a driver for the day or per hour if we also want to go somewhere else like Hebron/Jericho/Herodium (we have not decided where to go yet)? There will be four of us. If you have recommendations about particular guides/drivers please feel free to DM us.

3) If we take Bus 21 from Jerusalem, where exactly does it drop us off in Bethlehem? How much would a taxi be from this point to Church of Nativity area?

Thank you for your time and help.

The bus (No. 21 to Beit Jala) departs from the East Jerusalem bus station between Nablus Road and Salah Ed-din Street costs about 8NIS one way; you will see the bus station across the road opposite and to the left as you come out of Damascus Gate and walk up to street level. The bus 'platforms' are well signposted. The bus takes about 30 minutes to reach Bethlehem depending on traffic, etc. The last stop is Bab ez-Zqaq from where it is an interesting, initially up but mostly downhill, 15-20 minute walk along the length of Pope Paul VI Street (you will see the Holy Family Hospital on the corner) to Manger Square through part of the old town. Without doubt you will be accosted by taxi drivers and ‘tour guides’ as you exit the bus but someone will point you in right direction (it is very straightforward) if you wish to walk otherwise expect to pay no more than 20NIS for a taxi.

You will find two good maps here

After studying the map you will see that it is straightforward to walk up to ‘the wall’ and you may have read other threads on this site, eg.

With limited time I would suggest taking a taxi up to the Palestine Heritage Centre (about 20NIS from Manger Square) outside of which you will see Banksy’s famous ‘Dove of Peace’, looking up the street you will see the graffiti clad wall to which you can walk in a few minutes

Hope this is of some help.
