Message to Brudda

Dear Brudda: the weather in Istanbul in October ranges from near 70F during the day to the 50's at night. Bring a jacket or sweater. Also bring an umbrella, since it can rain and also closed shoes for wearing in the rain (especially while crossing the street), this last was recently mentioned by my pal Villa Rhapsody and should be noted, there can be a lot of water. You can wear capri pants, or long pants, skirts too, I always wear a skirt in Istanbul as I do in midtown NY but I am old now (ha ha). Don't worry about changing money. Avoid doing it hotels, their rate is never very good, airport has cash machines (you need a 4 digit pin number to use them in Turkey), and also change kiosks, very reliable. Once you are in Istanbul you will see how totally visitor friendly it is and how magnificent a city it is, filled with friendly, welcoming people. Please read Canadian Boys recent post, I'll be in Istanbul on Wednesday, it's where my heart is really and I know you'll have have a great time, Happy Travel, LemonLady

Thank you very much for the prompt reply. My heart is very heavy today.

I expected the weather to be similar to NYC. I am sad that I will be seeing some rain. However, as long as it is not torrential, it will be fine. I plan to bring sneakers & shoes. I will be in Istanbul for 3 days and then will tour Turkey, with an escorted tour, for another week. I am very excited.

Should I stick to dark colors or will bright colors (hot pink, bright orange) be OK. I do not want to stand out too much in a crowd.

What kind of things can I buy, while I am visiting Turkey?

Hi Brudda: it doesn't rain every day so don't worry, it may rain or may not rain, some years are wetter than others. You can wear any colors you wish, I tend to favor bright colors myself that way the family can pick me out of a crowd easily. They lost me a few times, you can read my Inside Page, Magic of Sanli Urfa which describes one of those times. Happy Travel, LemonLady

Hi LL,

Just about two weeks before I leave for Istanbul. I will have a free afternoon in Antalya. Is there anything special I can do here? I notice it is near the sea. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
