Waterbabies & music

We would like to take a boat trip up the Bosphorus, does anyone have any recommendations? Also about visiting the islands? We are only going from this Thursday (7th Sept) until Monday. Should we book soon after arrival or just turn up?

Would also appreciate advice on restaurants/bars where we can hear some live music that has not been processed for the trippers (although we are trippers!). Arev there any listings websites? Tried the TimeOut on but it is stuck firmly in the past!

On another note, is there hostility towards the English, in view of recent definitely hostile bombings? We were in Marrakesh after some international incident and were spat at by a girl. However this was quickly cancelled out by a gentleman who rushed over and apologised with obvious concern.

Thanks to the people who responded to my last posting about places to have a therapeutic tipple.

For the boat trip on the bosphorus, you can rent private boats for 2 -3 hours or you can have a short trip with the boat on Ortakoy shore under the 1st bridge on european side. For the islands you can try the public ferry to reach bthere easily or rent a boat. there are many nice restaurants bars and clubs, changes according to your food preference and music type.

Hi,

Just got back from Istanbul and may be able to give you some info. We took a ferry from Kabatas to Anadolu Kavag (approx 1 1/2 hours) had lunch and returned back on the next ferry. The cost was approximately 10 YTL per person for the roundtrip ferry ride.

The ferry stops at about 5 ports and people embark and disembark (not all passengers on "touring").

Had a great time. As for restaurants/bars..... we went to Angelique in Ortakoy and loved it! Went to Parc Fora in Kurucesme and Develi in Levent. All were great! Angelique was the "in" place and had a spectacular view of the Bosphorus. Sitting behind our table was Selma Hayek!!

Enjoy yourself!
