Good unspoilt beach destination in northwestern Turkey

Hi

We're going flying into Istanbul for two weeks at the end of June. Our plan is four nights based in Istanbul, then drive to Amasra and Safranbolu.

However, we're at a bit of a loss as to where to go after that. We are quite keen on İznik, so if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions on there, please let us know.

We are then keen to round it off with a good beach for a few days. We don't really have enough time to drive all the way down to the south coast or to the Aegean for a beach. Are the Marmara islands (Marmara Adası, Avşa and Paşalimanı) worth it – do they have nice beaches and are they unspoilt? Not quite sure after googling photos, but if anyone can recommend a beach there that would be great..

Or are we better of somewhere else? Any suggestions for beautiful but laid back beach destinations in the Marmara region most welcome.

Amasra, Safranbolu and Iznik are excellent destinations. Unfortunately, Marmara region (the northwest region) has no unspoiled beaches since it is the industrial heart of the country. If you choose to travel a bit further to west, you can enjoy some very unspoiled beaches on the northern Aegean coasts. Asos and Bozcaada (island) have fantastic beaches with a small town feel.

Hope this helps,

Borus
