Tripadvisor reviews - your opinion counts, literaly..

The Municipality of Fatih, which is responsible for the whole area of Sultanahmet, Eminonu, Laleli, Beyazit, Aksaray etc in the old city area, and the Ministry of Tourism & Culture, have signed a new agreement with Tripadvisor.com and Booking.com. According to the agreement, these websites will share all the hotel reviews with the Municipality and the Ministry and these two State institutions will be able to closely watch all the complaints from customers who stayed in that hotels, and file a law suit or take legal action against the hotel after investigating the complaint/s.

This shows the power of customer reviews on the internet, especially on reliable websites & forums, and from now on it means that some hotels will have some hard time..

Just for your info.

Where all these comments about government officials monitoring hotels are coming from? No such thing. The government (municipality, tourism ministry, etc.) are not at all interested in average reviews, poor service, broken sinks, flushing toilets, hotel personnel with attitudes, etc. The officials are only interested in illegallities, like credit card frauds, misrepresentations, not giving the refunds due to customers, etc, and rightfully so.

The governments in European countries control businesses in more ways than they do in Turkey and we all know that. When at the forums someone reports a fraud or a scam by a taxi driver, or by a hotel management company (we have a whole thread on it), by a carpet seller, or when bar scams and other scams are being reported, we all advise our members to go to the police. Well instead of intervention after the fact, is it not better to identify the culprits in advance and take the necessary measures so that the scams are not allowed to happen in the first place. Preventive cure is so much better than cure after the fact.

All reviews are public anyway. Anyone can read them, anytime. I personally think that we will have much less illegalities if these culprits are spotted and dealt with according to laws of the country.
