New Prices for Public Transport

Hi folks,

There is an increase to the public transportation fares. Tokens that can be used for all ferries, rail systems (metros, trams, local trains, funiculars, etc.) have increased to 3 TL. So each token costs 3 TL. If you are using Istanbulkart, all bus fares have increased to 1.95 TL.

Transfers to ferries within 2 hours of initial usage of Istanbulkart will be 1.40 TL. Ferries and all rail systems will also cost 1.95 TL with Istanbulkart. Now the savings of Istanbulkart have become substantial.

With these increases, Istanbul public transport prices are now approaching the European averages. I recommend everyone staying more than 2-3 days in Istanbul, to get an Istanbulkart.

Did the new fares start today? Funnily enough we paid 2 TL this morning at the tram stop, then 3 TL at Tunel after lunch.

A couple of days before we go... great timing!

Do you know if the Istanbulkart deposit is still 6 TL? Or did that go up as well?

It would be so convenient if we could buy an Istanbulkart right at the airport. But I guess we'll look for it once we get into Sultanahmet.

Hi Borus, after spending five nights in istanbul, we moved to Antalya and currently are in Goreme. We would be coming back to Istanbul on 31st. Obviously, Istanbul has no match in our view.

Last forever:) Kiosks near stations, in Sultanahmet up and to the left from the station. In Eminönü several places, easy to find.

Well, the prices have increased but compared to our region they are still reasonable, at least for german tourists. We pay nearly twice the price...

The deposit is now 7TL for the Istanbulkart.

We have been in Istanbul for 6 days now and have used out kart many, many times. In fact, we haven't been in a taxi yet, and we have been all over the golden horn and Beyaglu. It's essential to get a kart if you are going to be exploring!
