What is the best way to get from Bodrum to Istanbul? Is there a ferry? a train? How long is the trip? We are just starting to plan our trip, so would appreciate a little advice.

Hi

Firstly, theres no train unless you want to first go to either izmir or denizli and then on to Istanbul, but it's not very practical.

There are many companies running bus services to Istanbul, varan, nilufer, kamil koc to name a few of the bigger ones. The journey time is roughly 12 hours and the coaches go overnight. A good option, coaches are comfortable and safe, though can be very busy during the summer months so you might need to book a bit in advance.

You can fly very easily and fares are reasonable, bodrum airport is about 30km's outside of bodrum so you'll need to factor in the cost of getting from bodrum to the airport when calculating the cost. Most flights go to sabiha gokcen airport (on the asian side and away from sultanahmet and taksim) not ataturk so again factor in transfer costs and time.

Operators inc. Pegasus, turkish airlines, atlas jet

have a look here for options

to get to/from the airports you can use the havas service which runs regularly between bodrum ototgar and the airport, cost is 15ytl approx 40mins and then airport to taksim

havas from sabiha gokcen to taksim is 10ytl approx 1 hr

havas from ataturk to taksim 9ytl approx 40 miins

Hi AtlantaPenny,

The best way to get from Bodrum to Istanbul is by plane. You can fly turkish airlines, atlasjet or pegasus airlines. However Denizlines is starting a ferry service which can also accomodate a car. Here is a link for that:

good luck,
