Lasik in Istanbul?

I visited Istanbul last year and fell in love. I'm planning a month long trip to explore Istanbul and other parts of Turkey this summer. Someone mentioned that Lasik is relatively inexpensive and quality is top notch. Has any one here had any experience or recommendations? I figured since I'm going to be in Turkey anyway and it would cost roughly 1/2 of what I'd pay in the U.S. I'd like to get it done here.

Hi frankfurtmadchen,

Lasik is very common in Turkey and I also heard that its cheaper in Turkey than Europe. I still use glasses but here're some links for you. Latest technology is used in most of them but I dont have any idea on this technology. It would be better to get details of technology and ask to your doctor which to choose.

Here're the links:

While you are at it, go to the dentist's as well. It is like 1/10 the US prices, and a few places have high tech stuff beyond wildest dreams of US dentists.

I have no hard-core evidence or personal experience about Lasik surgery, but I was told that Istanbul has the largest eye hospital in the world and Lasik is one of their specialities. There was a person staying at our hotel who had Lasik done in Istanbul and was delighted with the results and the price.

I have also read that Istanbul has some of the most modern medical facilities in the world. I do not think the entire health care system in Turkey reflects high tech and advanced training, but I do believe you can locate top-notch facilities, particularly for elective surgery and dental procedures.

If I were contemplating an elective surgical procedure that was not covered by my health insurance, I would certainly want to investigate my options in Istanbul.
