We have now travelled to Istanbul twice, once for a long four night weekend and the second time for a one night stopover en route to Africa. On both occasions we have used the service provided by Backpackers Travel for our transfer to and from Ataturk Airport and we have been very impressed by their service, so wanted to post here to let other travellers know about the company.
The first time we stayed in the Park Hyatt hotel which is in the Macka Palais district of Istanbul (west of the Bosphorus, on the European Side and north east of Taksim Square) and the second time we stayed in the Grand Hyatt hotel which is just a few metres north of Taksim Square. On both occasions, the transfer provided by Backpackers was excellent: our names were clearly visible in the arrivals hall, the vehicle was waiting for us outside, the drivers are well dressed, speak English, do not smoke and - more importantly - drive safely!!!
We had read many bits and pieces online (not just on Trip Advisor) about problems experienced with taxis in Istanbul, getting ripped off and the high cost of transfers to and from the airport. We paid only 20 Euros for the transfer with Backpackers from the airport into the centre of Istanbul and this includes a complimentary snack and drink provided by the driver, the vehicle is air conditioned, brand new and very comfortable (in our case, we were also the only ones being transferred so it was private and we had plenty of space)
The transfer is very easily arranged by email and the response is always very prompt - esp. if you are arranging things at short notice, which provides great peace of mind that things are organised and sorted before you land.
