Travelplans..July/August

Hello everybody,

We (a couple 25, adventurous, not so into very touristy stuff like elephant orphanage, budget about 2000$/ Person for 14 Days) are travelling to Sri Lanka from the 19.7. till 4.8. 2013. We would love some culture and then heading to the beach. As I saw that the east coast would be best we decided to stay in Arugam bay (4nights) but then would like to go somewhere else. First I was thinking about Trincomalee but was not so pleased with the reviews (nothing to do, not so many restaurants outside the resorts). That is why my question is, if it would be very bad to go to Mirissa, Hikkaduwa or Beruwala for another 4 nights. I assume swimming will not be possible in the sea but we had that already in Arugam Bay. What would you advise? Trinco or South-West Coast?

Also I added my up-to-now-i-think-is-ok :) initiary...any advice on that?

Arugam Bay is good for surfing - not for swimming.

Passekudah or the beaches north of Trinco (Uppuveli and Nilaveli).

All the best,

Thanks again, what I read about the mentioned east coast beaches was not so nice like that there are not many restaurants around and that there is a lot of like resort style hotels (4 and five stars) without charm..is thst not true?

The whole Passikudah area was washed away by the 2004 tsunami, so all hotels are newly built.

The hotels in Trincomalee/Nilaveli were refurbished within the last few years when the area re-opened to tourism.
