Tour #7 - Happy to get info for anyone

I am setting off on my 7th 'tour' of the Maldives this Wednesday (29th June – 4 "sleeps"). Yes, island hopping is a bit weird and not exactly the idyllic relaxation many crave from this paradise, but part of my buzz is the adventure of discovery. These trips feed my preoccupation with researching the Maldives resorts and sharing what I can.

The focus is Addu (Seenu) and 'mid' Ari atolls where I am staying at the following resorts...

Embudu

Canareef Herathera

Equator Village

Shangri-La Vilingili

Taj Exotica

Kandolhu

Safari Island

Athuruga

Thudufushi

Cocoa

Club Med Finolhu

The 11 will bring my total of resorts visited to 74 (and the number of atolls visited to 13).

If anyone wants me to get any specific information on any of these resorts let me know by PM or reply and I will be happy to do so.

I will do a daily short post here where I provide a snapshot of the following…

- Ambience (first impressions and overall feel)

- Snorkel Spotting (what I saw snorkelling)

- Favourite Food (served)

- Weather (always a popular topic)

- First World Problem (the most petty criticism I can find)

- Most Reminded Me Of (comparing it to another resort)

- Learned Something New (fun fact of the day)

- Welcome Drink

- Pina colada test (one of our acid tests as this simple treat varies so much from place to place)

Can you keep an eye out for how solo guests are treated or how easy it is for friends to share rooms (but not necessarily beds!)?. So pleased cocktails are on your list - a holiday essential! Really looking forward to reading your reports.

Geeb - Good point. I called out years ago the need for some resort to put some focus on solo guests. I think their numbers are increasing.

A very curious coincidence that this TED piece on the topic features a stock picture of what does appear to be the Maldives - ideas.ted.com/the-price-of-being-single/ .

I will make some enquiries.

Wow, 74 islands! you most be very close to visiting all the resorts - I thought there was around 100?

I'm interested in your views on coral when your snorkelling - particularly the bleaching. As you're visiting different atolls and reefs at the same time your views will be interesting. Hope you have a wonderful time!

Ms Meyers - Not only have I visited 74, but I have snorkeled nearly every house reef of those (sort of a pet passion of mine). So I will definitely be checking out the coral. Struck by the impact of COTS in some Noonu sites last year. And I remember the sadness of seeing the impact of the 1998 El Nino.

To be precise, there are 167 resort active, inactive or under development. Of those, 120 are open today (so I have a ways to go).

Good point on COTS - their are many reports on how they have destroyed so much coral especially in the barrier reef. People had mentioned the number of COTS on athuruga's reef on the forum so that had put me off that resort slightly, with this and the bleaching it will be interesting to see how you view their reef as many people have said it's excellent. I very much hope it still is!

Very much looking forward to your reports. I've just booked Thudufushi (with Maafushivaru) and have already been to Athuruga, so I'm interested in how you compare them.
