Wow - More Expensive And Exclusive Than Dhoni Mighili

I thought DM was the ultimate in intimacy and expense, if only I won the lottery!:

Hi Nakatcha,

I was wondering over the price too, I think that the per week price may be based on full occupancy, ie maximum of fifteen on the island at any one time. The room photos made me laugh - huge plasma tv, playstations etc. Looked very out of place, and the boat interior actually looked a bit tacky! Mobile phones in order to "summon staff" - I wouldnt dream of it.

Despite all this, I have to admit I would go to Rania Experience if money were no object, I would love the feeling of having an island to myself. I just couldnt be doing with any private butler falling over themselves to pander to my every wish. They would practically have a fortnight off if I went.

I would not go to W now - ruined. Even without going into all the room interiors issues, there would be just far too many people on that island IMO. And where has the beach gone???.................

Regards, Lisa.

Where's the beach? It ran away in disgust! HAHA

Yeah - I love the idea of a whole island to myself (and hubby of course) but I would prefer to have 2 weeks on the OLD Fesdu and book Gathafushi (the private island) for a couple of days while there to be truly alone. Booking a whole resort island just gets you no other guests - not no other people.

We spent two happy Valentine's days on Gathafushi with a picnic and no-one else. Remember if you had the pretentiously-named "Rania Experience" you would not only have the butler but many other staff following you around and hovering in the bushes to attend to your every whim. Much better to be dropped off on Gathafushi and left totally alone for 8 wonderful hours with nothing but a picnic in a cooler with lots of drinks, one hut with outside shower and loo, and all the undisturbed wildlife. All for $50. We found a ground level nest with tern chicks in it right on the edge of the beach and there were baby sharks and rays everywhere and the coral and fish life was amazing and so unafraid as there were so few visitors - only 2 at a time and not every day. When Adam the boatman came back to pick us up at 5pm we didn't want to leave. Now we'll never go there again.

Even if we could bear a trip to W (no way) or afford it (not likely) and if they still have Gathafushi for their exclusive use, I bet they've tarted that up too because they can't imagine that anyone would not want all the luxury trappings and fawning staff even on a desert island day. A picnic in total isolation would just not be suitable for a posh W client. I treasure the memories of those two wonderful days, when our whole world was our tiny desert island and each other. Absolute bliss.

Oh yes, Fesdu as it was ......... simply simple and yes very Maldivian....

all now this 6 star stuff.......not a Maldivian in sight .... Natschatcha, maybe it is our age thing or something, but we are soooooo on the same wavelength.............. I am S A D, yes....... and all these young puppies with their 5/6 star thing simply do not know what it is all about .... nodoubt my comments will inflame some comment but they really do NOT know what it is all about ............ I enjoy being a "child of the sixties" and have enjolyed things tyhey will never EVER experience. Sure things change, but at w3hat cost we might like to ask.

Lots of CAPITAL letters, so I AM shouting, just al little bit.....

Tiggy.

I'm afraid that I must have breached a rule there - my post was entirely innocent - pointing out that I believe the "Rania experience" was a "whole island rental" price and not per person, and saying that if I was wrong about that then by comparison at £3k a week plus another £3+k a week upgrade for some rooms and then food on top the new Fesdu must be "not very nice". I actually put a couple of asterisks but someone must have been mightily offended.

Also I said that the 2006 Harlequin brochure states that the new W Fesdu rooms are "traditionally Maldivian" from the outside and contemporary inside. I said that the brochure writer had obviously not been off resort as the vast majority of Maldivians would never have even SEEN a room that looked even vaguely like the rooms at the W. Another couple of asterisks may have offended here. I don't know why they don't just remove the offending asterisked word rather than the whole post which affects the continuity of the thread. We're mostly adults here - under 18s can't book holidays. I really don't see that an asterisk or 2 will offend anyone.

I can't think of anything else I said in that post so if there WAS anything relevant it is now lost. Its deletion did cause confusion as it started talking about one island, I commented on that island and compared it to another and when my post was replied to. When mine was removed it wasn't really clear which island was being talked about. Perhaps a little EDITING (with appropriate notation that it had been done in case the edited version was misleading)might be better than total removal in future!

Rex-Diver:

I NEVER had an outside toilet, I ALWAYS had central heating and I would happily forego double glazing if it meant the housing stock was not largely fenestrated with yellowing plastic. I don't believe I have ever eaten fish and chips. You think everything's better now but one day you'll understand. Less really IS more, but by the time you realise that, YOUR "less" will be what is now current and you will be complaining about the excess that is THEN current.

Can't you imagine a country where there is space on the roads to park, drive for pleasure and not get congestion charged, fined, bankrupted by petrol costs? Where you could go away on holiday and not worry coming home that you had been burgled? When you had a telephone in your house and your office but not clamped to your head all day so any peace and privacy is non-existent as anyone feels they can get you whenever they want. When any public transport journey is uninterrupted by stupid ringtones and people text-messaging without muting the keypad noise. When there weren't drunken people staggering about vomiting in the town centres meaning you'd actually rather stay at home than go out.

You feel sorry for us but actually we feel sorry for you. I'd absolutely hate to be young now (although of course I would like to go back 20 years and have them again - especially since I would get to experience all the lovely holidays in the Maldives once again before they got spoiled).
