The advice and speedy responses on this forum, compared to many I have dipped into while researching my travels, is truly impressive, do others feel the same?

Yes I'd agree with that. I was bowled over with the suggestions I got when I asked for help choosing an island. I'm thrilled with the island I've booked for next year and would never have found Athuruga, or indeed the travel agent (TravelLab), if it wasn't for this forum.

I've also found some other forums for other countries attract some sarky and unhelpful responses, which doesn't happen on here generally. What a lovely bunch :-) Everyone here loves the Maldives and seem to genuinely want to help others choose their perfect island.

On the other hand, I blame the regulars for fuelling my Maldivitis! :-)

Absolutely. Other forums have a thread that has maybe 3 responses if you are lucky. New York isnt too bad but there are literally a question a minute and they quickly get lost unless you constantly bump it to the top. Never found any humour in any forum other than here. Some forums are downright unpleasant with the sarcasm and total unhelpfulness (Air Travel being one)

When I asked for info before going to Peru and Ecuador last year I dont think I even got one reply. This forum is far far better.

Another vote for the most informative and genuine answers.

Apart from DEs, who contribute a lot to the forum I have to admit I am really impressed by Froggy's response re a travel agent , ( yes the ' belly up ' AP in case anyone curious.) We need someone to be as sharp as a knife to defend customers interests.

I have seen far worse in other forums, when DEs are travel agents, those, unlike Richard who, not only always make it clear at each of his post that he is an agent, gives pros as well as cons of each resort they have visited, some other DEs at other forums just write ' they all good, I have visited all your candidates ' bla bla bla when there are certain request of the classic question ' which of the following should I pick etc...' whilst the answers from other visitors who have been to those candidates are completely different, certainly not ' they all good'.

Resort staffs from Maldives are so far ( ok I possibly have not seen all the relevant replies from them )but at least they made it very clear on their posts they are working for such and such.

At another forum which I have researched intensely, every now and then ,there are always brand new IDs very keen on and only interesting in answering topics 'shall I pick hotel ABC ' , the only contribution of him/ her on the forum was / will be to defend the certain agent or only resort ABC none stop, fighting with other members should they disclosed anything negative, without any interesting in answering ANY other topic on TA. It is very weird that no one stays at only one island/ resort for their whole holiday in that country but those keen on defending resort ABC have no evidence of have staying at other resorts,/ transit hotels, nor can they compare ABC to any other resorts as they have not stayed nowhere else in the OP's question, but they all claimed resort ABC is the 'best resort among the world' whether they are actually 'visitors' and have traveled to that country for 'holiday' or not was a myth... ( just in case, it was, much, much worse than people who traveled to Maldives and defended possibly the first / only resort they have visited, completely different level of defending.)

Thank you DEs and those who help to keep this community clean, genuine and informative!
