Honeymoon - August 2013

Hi,

Xarla suggested I make a new post and post all my questions in here, rather than setting up numerous new posts (Sorry everyone, I really appreciate your patience with me though!).

Where am I at?

1. Athuruga - 10 Nights AI - 5.5k for BV, 6K for Mixed, 6.5K for WV. This is from Travel Labs, they are ABTA, what else should I check? I've asked if Kuoni Rep. Travel Designers have questionned their quotes saying they are selling at a loss and they would be nervous if we would even receive the tickets! (They have quoted £100 more on each option).

2. OH is still put off by the cost, so I might have to throw some other options out there. The absolute maximum he wants to spend is 5K. Beautiful island, small (no shoes!!), good food, good snorkelling.... it doesn't have to be AI as we don't drink alcohol but if we went for any other option than AI it would need to hit around 4K-4.5K so we still had enough to buy our milkshakes etc! :-) If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

3. I've priced up Thudufushi - same as Athuruga really. Not keen on Kuramarthi and don't want to go back to Reethi beach. I have received a quote for Veligandu which is £5,200 for 10 days so OH might approve more of that.... but how does it compare to Athuruga? Is there much difference, and if so, what?

Many Thanks.

Have a look at Vakarufalhi. Purely Maldives gave us a good quote for the summer months. Very similar set up to Athuruga but it's one of those islands that gets overlooked on this site. They do Full Board plus, which includes drinks with meals. It's on our list to go in 2014 now.

Why don't you go on Purely Maldives site as you can easily price up most islands.

Thanks. Will look at those! I'm also pricing up Robinson Club but EXTREMELY concerned by the table of 8 concept in the restaurant. Me & OH do not under any circumstances want to socialise with other holiday makers! I know that might sound very anti-social but we would rather enjoy time together and not get stuck with other couples etc!

As far as I know you can sit as a couple at RC.

Can't remember if I posted on one of your threads or someone elses but Veligandu while being a great choice for a honeymoon, does not have very good snorkelling. It may be enough for a first timer / casual snorkeller though.

Have you looked at Komandoo? It's nice island, with excellent water villas. There are wave breakers surrounding most of the island (which didn't actually bother us) but the snorkelling is miles better than Veligandu. Good food as well.

you may get it within budget.

Ian

Thanks All. Can't prices for Vakarufalhi or Fihaloi up but I will investigate these two options. One option that is looking like its coming into budget is Lily Beach Resort?

Thanks Ian, will look at Komandoo. OH is all for island beauty so I think the wave breakers might break this option for him though. We like to be able to look out to natural sea, whilst at Reethi we walked round the island and did comment on where sandbags etc where as not being as nice as our side (that had none) so would want to avoid Islands where things like are heavily implemented (if possible!).

In one of your previous threads I thought you said Maafushivaru was well over budget?

Paul gave a lot of comments about that island in one of your previous threads.

I would be surprised to see Lily in that budget, it's premium all inclusive but very family friendly and does have wave breakers.

Jody these are quotes off Purely Maldives. I think there is another island that was suggested that is spelled similarly which was out of budget, but it may have been this one! Its hard to tell whether this 5K quote is full board or all inclusive, if its full board its out as drinks will add that price up.

The lily quote is also off Purely Maldives, I've contacted them so just waiting to hear official quotes rather than just relying on their website!

Are wave breakers like bricks in the sea to stop waves etc? Sorry - not sure.

they look something like sandbags....and you can't see them from the water villas. you will get an idea of what they look like on the homepage of their website

not visible at all at high tide...
