why do people book certain islands??. By this i mean those islands which are almost universally casigated by experts on here as being the last place on earth (or the maldives ) that you should go to. And that there are far better islands to consider for much less cash.
By this i mean;
islands on the flight path or on Male's doorstep (Taj, Baros, Club Faru, Kurumba at a push)
islands with no house reef, (lots of them)
islands next door to unsightly local islands with associated problems
islands with unsightly groyne's or walls or those with drastic erosion problems (Meed, CPDK)
overly built up islands with mostly buildings and little else (Centara)
'tatty'islands that need a bit more than a lick of paint
larger 'mass market' islands more akin to Benidorm than the Maldives (Meeru, Sun (or is it Royal), and a couple of others)
is it because some people do no research, are taken in by the photoshopped images or pick islands offered by equally unknowledgable travel agents
I get that your first island is always a mind blowing experience but i have read repeat 5 star reviews of islands that are akin to downtown Baghdad.
Maybe I am guilty of this in booking Biyadhoo which you could argue fits into a 'tatty', in need of urgent refurb (but my research would indicate that the pros outweigh the cons) - and its VERY cheap!!
I regularly see the same islands given no credit whatsoever in here, but they are still as full/busy as the other islands.
I get the islands which are just TOO expensive so we would all cross them off but why doesnt everyone plump for (dependant on budget) Athuruga, Thudufushi, Biyadoo, Embudu, Maayafushi, dhigiri, Kuramathi, Reethi, Angaga, RC, Zithali , Veligandu, Angsanas, Maafushivaru, Lily, Moofushi, Ranveli or (visit to the bank manager )- Mirihi) ?
