Alternatives to Tangjung Rhu?

We went to Tangjung Rhu last November. The Service, location, Food and rooms were all superb. So much so that it now makes it very difficult to find somewhere else. Does anyne have any alternatives to match their standard without spending a fortune? We're happy to go any where in the world but we do have a soft spot for Thailand.

Ah - that's the key we are all searching for! How to find a hotel of the TR's standard without spending a fortune. The TR itself charges a fortune at RM1300 a night.

Hi, glad you enjoyed your experience at Tanjung Rhu, Langkawi.

With your spot spot for Thailand, and if still for beach holidays, one place that I opined matches TR, in respect of location, food and rooms and also view of Andaman Sea, is Evason Phuket and Six Senses Spa. This is in Phuket, and it has its own island..hmm Bon island, and they also provide complimentary twice daily shuttle service to Patong.

We were there in 2004, and thoroughly enjoyed this resort facilities and its discreet staff, and the view from the room with our own private lanai.

not sure from your question whether you are looking for something at the same price level or better value for money than the TR. If the latter, the world's your oyster!

You could look into The White House on Koh Samui Thailand www.hotelthewhitehouse.com (small boutique hotel on nice beach £70 per night

MRKT's recommended Evason Phuket is also at the same price level

Also I can also recommend Kuramathi Island - over-water bungalows in Maldives www.kuramathi.com - £165 per night

On Langkawi itself the Casa del Mar gets rave reviews at about RM600 per night. This seems to be an exception on Langkawi which otherwise (at least at thetop end) does not seem to offer good value for money.

For service level at a given price, its hard to beat the TR. Certainly on Langkawi, the comparable resorts (Datai and Four Seasons) are both much more.

I've heard that the JW Marriott on Phuket is great value for money. The Bintan Island resorts are also quite good. The better resorts on Borneo Malaysia have good reputations but you cannot get the beach isolation quite the same way as on Langkawi. People are recently raving about the Amanjiwo resort on Java but the prices are a bit higher than the TR and the feel is more jungle luxury rather than beach.
