How strict is the Laos go government about sleeping with a n

I met my Lao girlfriend while traveling. I was actually born in Vientiane myself but left when I was one. We have travelled to Thailand, Tokyo, LA and NYC together. We usually try to meet every 3 months. My next trip will be to Vientiane. I am concerned about sex. I remember reading that it's against the law for a foreigner to have sex with a Lao national unless they tell married. Is this strictly enforced? Will I have to check into hotels myself or will she be able to join me in the check-in process?

I would not worry too much about this.

You can check into a hotel together, but the law is still enforced sporadically - typically a $500 fine. They usually do nighttime raids on private houses though, rather than guesthouses & hotels, so you should be fine.

Saw lots of tourists with local girls. If you are worried you could book in separately at an economic GH and take it from there
