H1N1- Avian/Bird Flu Back in Cambodia

News coming to hand indicates that H1N1 - Avian/Bird Flu has been confirmed in Takeo Province, to the immediate south of Phnom Penh.

The sale and transportation of duck meat has been prohibited following the deaths of over 15,000. ducks

Cambodian authorities have begun a mass killing of ducks after confirming a fresh outbreak of the deadly bird flu virus.

At least seven Cambodians have died from the disease since the first reported outbreak .

The bottom line is avoid places where they slaughter birds and you will be fine.

I was in Cambodia during the first outbreak of H5N1,avian influenza (when was that, anyhow, 6 years ago?), and also in Laos 2 years ago when there was an outbreak near the village where I was staying. In the case of the infected Lao fowl, they were ducks imported from China.

Have you heard anything about the source of the infection Ian?
