Lodging/ Transport in Dhaka

I am a non-residence Bangladeshi who will be in Dhaka in January after a long time. I am looking for a place / guesthouse to stay at for a few days. Also, what is a good way to get a safe transfort from the airport? Appreciate anyone's help.

Yes, you can get a guesthouse in center Dhaka at Gulshan-Banani area. Usally they are charging Tk 1500-2000 for room/night with a/c, bathtub, TV, Fridge. Transport you can hire for pickup and drop. Usally Airport to Gulshan-Banani drop charges Tk 800-1000.

Thanks,

BDboy is correct. You can first book a room is guest house in Gulshan, Banani or Baridhara area, which are the most suitble places for foreigners. The request guest house to arrange airport pick up for you, they might charge extra, but it is worthwhile. You will have a lot of to bargain and suffer and worry if you hire a taxi from airport.

I can not offer you all the guest house list. There are too many guest houses in DHaka city. If you need more help, pls post here again...Welcome to Bangladesh.

Thank you both Bdboy and Salima. Your responses are appreciated.

I will try to contact a guesthouse as was provided in Salima's reply and have them pick me up from the airport. Hopefully it will work out.

Hello Foisal.

I just returned from a backpack trip to Bangladesh. There are some cheap hotels starting at 350 Taka / day would you like to go on the cheap side ! Like the Ramna Hotel in Ramna or the Green Palace Hotel in Farmgate.

There is also the Farmgate Hotel which is at 700 Taka / day and is much cleaner and newer than the two above mentionned.

From the airport to any of these hotels a taxi should cost around 400 Taka. Now if you are Bangla looking and speak Bangla it will definitely be cheaper if you bargain.

On the way back i paid only 120 Taka to the airport in a CNG !

Happy time in BD

Thank you LoneRunner for your info. Farmgate Hotel sounds good, but I am not backpacking. I was looking for a decent lodging in a non-crowded area and something in the range of Tk 1,500/night. Also, pick-up/drop-off to/from the airport.

Farmgate hotel is not a backpackers hotel. Its very nice/new and clean and not crowded. In your original post you said you are looking for a "place/guesthouse"... But there are so many more hotels in Dhaka and i think it will be easy for you to find another one. Good luck !

Foisal, I think you should chose the Gulshan-Banani area. This area is quite, easy to go Airport (15 minutes by car). In your budget you can get guest house in Banani per room/night with a/c, attach toilet-bathtub, TV, Mini fridge, land telephone.

Thanks,
