Halong Bay in August - 2 nights or 3 nights

On reading the posts, we could be wasting our time over 2 nights if the weather is not good. any suggestions? Time is not the problem!

IMO one night is sufficient to have a taste of Halong Bay. There is little to do except drink, at high prices or socialise at night. Not that I am against socialising, but you could be stuck with bad travel companions. The one night journey gives you a good insight and look at the bay, with the relaxation of being aboard, hopefully, a nice junk. My thoughts of the place are that it is highly commercialised and dirty - another example of poor management of what could be a really spectacular place. - just my thoughts, no attacks please:-)

August is good time to visit Halong. It may rain but short. The 2 night package offers more activities and allows you to visit less crowded places. One night is enough to catch an essence of Halong though.

We went with drizzle weather and 3 days 2 nights wasnt enough. It all depends who you go with. We had a fantastic time kayakaing, eating, visiting fishing village, beach, swimming and more eating. The boat was beautiful, the food great. Never saw the sun, but it was still totally stunning. Loved it. Go with a very good company. You get what you pay for here. It was a highlight of

vietnam for us. But fellow friends took a cheap trip and didnt have a great experience.

Do your research and go on a boat with less people and one that suits your needs and wants. Dragons Pearl we went on had 18 passengers. It was a great number.

August is good time, hot and sunny. Tour 3days 2nights is suitable.

I would go with the 2 nights and if you book one of the Indochina junk boats dinner on the 2nd night is in a cave and they also go to a cleaner and quieter part of the bay.
