train or car from Hue to Hoi an

We will be traveling from Hue to Hoi An on one leg of our March trip. I understand the trip through the Hai Van Pass and Lang Co is quite beautiful. Would you recommend taking a train to Da Nang and then a taxi to Hoi An or a car all the way from Hue to Hoi An through the pass?

Thank you!

Both of means of transportation can be doable but taking a train will take more time than taking a car. There is a daily bus from Hue to Danang, then Hoi An which you can use or hire a private car.

If you take the bus, you will not go through the Hai Van Pass. The busses go through the shorter, faster, boring tunnel. Note: The Hai Van Pass is between Hue and Da Nang.

The train does not go through the Hai Van Pass but along the coast lower down. Both the road and the train routes are very scenic, it just depends which you want to take. A car is arguably more adventurous :-) and has the advantage you can stop anywhere along the way for additional sightseeing and photo stops.

The car is the best option and take the route through Hai Van cloudy Pass and stop off at Marble Mountain for views of china Beach.

You should use train for the route. it must be quite noisy and somehow uncomfortable. Car through the pass is better option.

Hi,

Both Train and Car is well. However, car is better. You have occasion to stop at Elephant Spring. It is cool and fresh for you to swim and relax, then stop at Lang Co Beach, Hai Van Pass for seeing beautiful sights. Driving along the Danang Beach is also nice. If you have time, you can stop at Marble Mountain, then direct to Hoi An. It is really amazing if you travel by a private car.

It is better to take private car you can stop and visit Lang Co beach, Hai Van Pass, Cham Museum, Marble Mountain and then go ahead to Hoi An.

Pippilotta, your post makes no sense whatsoever, and is off the mark. The train is not "quite noisy and somehow uncomfortable", it's fine for the three hour trip.

The train is spectacular for $4 but if you are not on a budget you could do the private car thing. I did the train and it was raining heavily at the time but it is still one of my special Vn experiences. Absolutely stunning but make sure you get a seat on the left (eastern side) to make the most of it.

From Danang to Hoi an it will cost about $15 for a cab but there will be other travellers at the station to split the cost if you are on a budget

Enjoy,

Mark
