Renting a scooter/motocycle in Ho Chi Minh City?

I'm looking to rent a scooter/motocycle in Ho Chi Minh City. How does cost and is true you need a driver license for it?

Dancing Fool,

With all respect, I believe you should heed warnings about riding Motos in VN---not to be disrespectful, have you ever been incarcerated in a VN hospital in VN as the outcome of an accident?---I have, an experience I do not want again!---you have to have support for food, etc ---they are primitive and unhealthy places. You can ignore the Insurance issue if you wish ( my insurance is attached to my American Express Platinum card ). $2.500,000 AUD health cover for serious accident. I had to have a friend activate it, and was flown out in a plane, with 6 seats removed to Bangkok!------4 weeks under great care there. I would have died in a VN hospital!----people here are only offering advice!

It's always a wise man who listens

plover

P.S . ---the OP's question was sincerely asked and answered, but others with experience thoughtfully offer caution!

Mate,

don't take it personally. A lot of people have had posts removed! At the end of the day you just have to be sensible about your advice. In the case of 'the majority of international travelers don't purchase travel insurance.' I hope that is not the case, but the generalisation may be construed as bad advice. I have 3 kids under 27 and they have needed to activate insurance in Indo, Fiji, LA and Mexico and I am glad that they at least had basic cover.

As for riding in Vn, this is a complex discussion. At the moment it is illegal, even though a lot of people do it, and the hardliners enforce that law, which is fair enough considering the consequences.

I have just returned from a solo ride in Sri lanka for 18 days and I had licences and insurances and it felt good to be legal :-) I felt more endangered in SL than Vn but go figure.

This is IMHO.

Mark
