Only 2 days in Ho Chi Minh

Hi guys, we are calling in to Ho Chi Minh for 2 days after an extensive trip through Thailand and Cambodia and Vietnam. We have only 2 days.

If you had only 2 days where would you go for

Sightseeing (must sees)

For a meal (we do not eat meat, only fish)

A nice drink

great atmosphere

Thanks Jan

Sightseeing (must sees)

I would normally say the Mekong Delta but if you only have 2 days that isn't an option, and maybe you will have been there already. So I would say:

Do a walking tour of what remains of the city's colonial architecture

Try a Vespa Tour off the beaten track with Vietnam Vespa Adventures

Don't miss Cholon (Chinatown) and Binh Tay market

For a meal (we do not eat meat, only fish)

For good fish & seafood go to Hong Hai seafood restaurant on Pasteur St (on the right just before the junction with Dien Bien Phu). Or head down to Co Bac/Co Giang streets (nr backpacker district) for a wide selection of street food including awesome (and very cheap) shellfish. Barbecue Garden restaurant is a fun place where you can grill fish/seafood at your own table in a really nice garden.

A nice drink

Depends what your taste in bars is - personally I avoid the overpriced hotel bars that seem to be inexplicably popular on this forum. Phattys is one of the liveliest bars & has a really good selection of beer, wine & cocktails as well as good Aussie food & friendly regulars. Sheridans has live music every night (except Monday). The Refinery has a nice terrace to sit outside for a drink in a quiet courtyard, & does fantastic French bistro food too.

great atmosphere

Not sure what you mean here but if you want an authentic local atmosphere, try getting out of district 1 into the suburbs & trying a local restaurant - anywhere that looks big & noisy with plastic chairs is worth stopping at for some food. The menu may not be in English but that's part of the fun...

Have a good time!

Oh and forgot to say this is the only place i do not have a hotel booked. We are not on a budget, but really like Clean and a bit quirky.
