children in vietnam

Can anyone advise me on whether Vietnam is a safe place to take a 3,4 and 6 year old. We are thinking of going in October to Ho chi Minh and then to Hoi An

Safe as houses! The Vietnamese love kids, especially foreign kids.

And you won't have to bring too many baby supplies as disposable diapers and long-life (no refrigeration until opened) milk (BLUE packages are UNSWEETENED) readily available in corner stores, supermarkets.

If you bring medications bring also prescription copies; there are few sources of tampons over here, nor contact lens fluid.

HCMC in October will have light showers for fairly short periods in October and the temps will be around 25-30C.

Hoi An is different though, you might catch the tail end of the monsson season and last year this meant heavy damage between Hoi An and Hue.

On CNN.com there is an area on the opening screen, under the fold, where you can select Local News. If you select VietNam it will pop up about 6 stories daily - storms are always newspaper features and you will see them there.

You will require visas for every PASSPORT, so if your children are on parental passports you simply stick their names on that parents visa application. If they have their own visas you will get a bigger bill (all visa payments can be combined in a single money order).

We just came back from travelling with our children (6 & 10), they were treated like royalty. They spent most of the time wandering about wide-eyed trying to figure out why everybody was making such a fuss of them. We hardly saw any crime, prostitution, etc. at all, spent most of the time wondering why somebody wasn't up to something. If you read back through my other forum posts you will see what I have said to other people about taking children. Also read through "Ebony_ivory" forum posts for tips re kids. Cheers
