Because the old hasn't been torn down in favour of the new and the Western-oriented 'progress' that now characterises far too many cities in SE Asia and Asia in general, there is an interesting and diverse range of architecture that reflects various periods of the city's history, as well as a street life that unfolds and changes from hour to hour, lakes, parks large and tiny, trees everywhere, idiosyncratic quirks - the works actually.
I for one never tire of it.
The question is, do you have at least a couple of months to delve into a fraction of what it has to offer for those with observant eyes and questioning minds? No? No matter, even a few days will satisfy keen amateur photographers. Rise early and go to bed late though.
