where to be based?

Hi there,

We are planning a trip to Vietnam with a few days in Singapore first, we very much want to visit the D M Z and be near Highway 1 and 9.

where should we be based? Also is it easy to go over the border into Cambodia? (I know you need a visa)

Hi tinlizzie,

To reach the DMZ, Hue is the closest---any number of ways---bus, bike, car ---Mandarin Cafe in main street is best place to organize this---Mr Cu is the owner!---a good day trip--overnight if you want.---Danang, Hoi an all within 4 hours as well---get a good a perspective of central VN from here ---the nicest part of VN in my view!

Hi tinlizzie,

Yes, you should based in Hue as Plover said, he is the Expert of Vietnam.

Additional, after the trip to DMZ , hue and Hoi An, to cross the border to Cambodia you can take the train or fly to Ho Chi Minh City. From there you can either flight, boat trip or bus over land to Cambodia.

Thanks to both Plover and Linktolinh for your info, Im afraid I will have a lot more questions before our planned trip, if you dont mind.

As mentioned we would like to go over the border into Cambodia, you said we could either get the train or fly from Ho Chi Minh city, do either of you know which would be the approx cost of flying? and how long would the train take?

We also would like to have a few days in a beach setting to chill out, we have been looking at Phu Quoc island, or does Cambodia have any nice beaches?

Thanks again.
