Unmarried couple cannot stay in the same hotel room

I am going with my boyfriend to Vietnam in Nov. I heard from a friend that unmarried couple are not allowed to stay in the same hotel room a decade ago. Is this still practise?

My boyfriend and I just returned from two weeks in Vietnam, we stayed in the same room the entire time. It wasn't an issue with us.

Hi Yawm17

The hotel never ask for marriage certificate and the hotel people do not bother to know whether you are married or not??They are more interested in the income generated from the business.

Should think it only apply to local only???To discourage "that type of business"???

This law only applies to a foreigner sharing a room with a local, and even then many provincial hotels don't bother to check.

In your case, if the hotel does try this with you, take your custom elsewhere.

I agree. If 2 foreigners share a room, no one bother to check.

It is true about the viet government policy about a foreigner sharing a room with a local. But my son had no trouble sharing a room with his fiance before he was formally married to his now vietnamese wife.

Hotel in Vietnam only require you present the married license from 22 years ago (it's very funny rule). Now every one can stay with any other OK, just required you present peronal ID card or Passport of each one.

I never had any problem staying in the same room as my Vietnamese fiancee (now married). In 4 years and many hotels throughout VN no one even hinted at asking about our marital status. My wife did tell me that sometimes during holiday periods, the police crack down on the hotel owners and selectively enforce these rules but it's relatively rare and never for rooms housing only foreigners.
