traveling with kids

Greetings..

Going to Hanoi on this Wednesday (9/12/07), my travel companion last minute decided not to go and I have paid up for the air fare and now taking my 2 boys instead. \

1) Would like to find out , is it safe to travel with kids on our own in Hanoi?

2) Is there any local guides/ agent that I can go to for a day or 2 for sight-seeing?

3) Any hotels that is convenient to places of intrest between walking distance, fair rate and suitable for kids?

Hope to get a helpful reply soon, thanks ...

Greetings..

1) Definitely safe. Don't catch a fake taxi with magic meter. Ask your hotel to call a taxi for you and advise you what taxi companies can be trusted.

2) Yes, there are thousands of them in Hanoi, land of tough competition.

3) Sorry I don’t have a good recommendation.

Vietnamese treat kids very well and are very protective of them. They will be pampered and treated almost like celebrities. Just be careful crossing the streets which can be treacherous for the uninitiated.

hi I am from Singapore. Just came back from Hanoi, Sapa & Halong Bay with my hubby & 3 kids aged 9,7 & 5. Yes I would agree that the Vietnamese are quite nice to kids. We did not have that many problems with the kids but it was an experience crossing the roads & walking around in the busy Hanoi traffic with them!

There are plenty of agents...We stayed at the Hanoi street hotel, it is ok, we did not get everything as we were promised / expected but overall it was ok. They helped us arrange for all the tours. Not sure if there are better hotels.

Have a good trip like we did!

We recently traveled to hanoi with our boys (7-6-4). We stayed at Hotel Paradise which was nice, staff really accomodating. It was $65 a night for a family deluxe (Full & 2 twin). One of the few 3 star hotels that has a swimming pool. Even though its an indoor pool it was nice for the boys to jump in after our adventure walking the city. The location is Ok on the outer edge of the Lake. So we took taxis to most places that we wanted to get to. If you have time -- take them on a tour of Halong Bay on a Junk. We took our kids and did 3 days 2 nights and stayed an extra day in Cat Bay and our kids loved it. We brought games to play on the boat and did alot of swimming.
