Martti,

Yo Ho Ho....

Yes there is but with WTO and whatnot it is getting harder to find.

Try walking down Ly Nam De st.

Also ask the shop to open it for you on their computer to make sure the "Crack" code is easy to find and operate.

Don't tell anyone I said so.....

There are several outlets but since Microsoft gave the VN government a sweetheart deal on their bloatware the dealers have to operate more discretely. The VN government sends a few cops out, to demonstrate they are complying with their obligations under the copyright provisions with the USA, a few times every year.

You will usually be offered a catalog of software covers. After making your choice they will send a 'runner' off to pick up the CDs.

To locate the nearest/best shop ask any of the youth you find in an InterNet cafe - they all usually know where to go.

In HCMC it is on the small hill area behind the New World Hotel.

DVDs and CDs are available on the same basis (covers+runner) and are more evident than software in markets, etc.

In HCMC the street to the left of the Sunwah highrise located on Nguyen Hue is the prime area convenient to tourists.

Does this street have a name?

Does thebig Market there sell dvd's?

What about hardware too please both in HCMC and Hanoi. I read / heard somewhere in Hanoi their is a computer street?

We have visited various countries over the years and they all have these "specialist " areas.

Bangkok, HngKng, bali, SnG etc.

However as has been mentioned its getting more diffuclurt to find these places. The simple lesson I have learned is steer clear of buying anything with Mocrosfot on it. Asking for trouble back here from customs upon re entry.

TIA.

You should remember that this web site is indexed daily by Google, et al.

The Microsoft Gestapo jackboots have been all over Ha Noi and the government was all too eager to demonstrate its compliance with WTO and Copyright conventions. Giving precise locations would just provide a road map for them.

Just ask at the Cafes and you will be told. Most markets have copy CDs and DVDs. Or you could load a Torrent client and hop on over to Pirate Bay and download them.

I understand the way it works. I have been to many places in asia that have "areas" for hardware / software. Ie Golden Arcade in HnG KnG. SnG, Thailand etc.

Is there a general area for hardware? Both in Hanoi and HCM?

I need a decent external hdu for backup purposes and a decent sized flash drive. 8Gb + I am not a person who used cracked s/w. Not at all interested in that.

You mentioned Sunwah?
