weather Hanoi and Halong Bay

Was only planning to bring lightweight clothing for hot weather but just heard that it is cool in Hanoi. We are taking an overnight on Halong Bay on March 17th - do we need a windbreaker, warmer clothing? Thanks for any and all advice! - Amy

Yes, you should bring some warm clothes to Ha Long bay. It's getting cold now in the North of Vietnam like winter (though we are in spring now). Ha Long is even colder than Hanoi because of the sea wind. These are the final cold days here before the summer comes. Wish you still have a happy time in Ha Long!

Returned yeterday from Hanoi and Halong Bay.

Wore a TShirt and 3/4 pants and sandals - changed to a Long sleeved tshirt at night - still warm to walk outside on desk after dinner.

Left Hanoi in drizzling rain - S/Sleeve tshirt and a denim jacket and was OK.

You need warm clothes and ponchos as we expect light rain in Spring (February to April). It's cold to day and will last until the middle of next week.
