Is this a legitimate post by the real Tropical Sails do you think?? I would be investigating further if I was wanting to travel on Dragons Pearl and not taking this at face value.
Good point FT. I searched many many Vietnamese newspaper's website, found nothing about Dragon Pearl ' sunken. Truth or myth??
my travel agent in Aus. has confirmed Dragon's Pearl was damaged and is not available at moment. My booking for Feb 08 is being changed.
Yes the news was the truth. I asked my hotel who arranged our trip with Dragon Pearl before and they confirmed the news.
Here their reply:
<< Our driver and dozens of travelers witnessed the accident on that day. The precise info is that the water level on that day was very low thus the junk was stranded when harboring. A smaller boat was used to tow the Dragon pearl but the pulling direction was a bit incorrect and the Dragon was partly capsized. Though all passengers have been landed safely before, the luggages were still on board and all got soaked >>
On the afternoon of 16 ctober, we were cruising on the beautiful new Bhaya junk when we were advised dinner would be a bit late as we were getting additional guests. They arrived - all 18 of them, looking like Vietnamese boat refugees in the clothes in which they had been out kayaking for the day. They had been staying on the Dragon Pearl for a two nite stay. The crew of the Bhaya coped admirably with this extra crowd and in total we were then 30 guets.
The Dragon Pearl was in the harbour at 12 noon awaiting the day's new passengers. The captain failed to arrive (apparently they have a roster of three captains). Newly arrived guests on board were having lunch an hour later when they noticed the boat listing, and were rapidly evacuated from the dining room and escorted to the shore. The boat was firmly stuck in the mud by the time a tug boat came to pull it out and in the process the hull was damaged.
Divers went in to search for stuff belonging to guests, and everything in their safes was returned to them. No lives were lost or anything like that but the boat wont be sailing for a while!
