The Airport Corporation of Vietnam has announced plans to close the historic town of Hue's Phu Bai International Airport in Thua Thien Hue Province in March next year for runway reparation. According to the plan, the airport will close for between six and eight months, at which time passengers can use Da Nang International Airport in the nearby Da Nang City, which is located 90 kilometers away. So you can go from Hanoi to Hue by train or take flight to Danang firstly as above mentioned.

thank you for the reply. please suggest what you would delete from the itinerary. do you recommend an agency or travel planner that would help in this trip....from vietnam....not from the states. or should we plan our trip ourselves utilizing Trip Advisor. We've traveled extensively but we find arranging the trip to Vietnam has been a little more difficult. again many thanks

Vietnam is very easy to do yourself , book hotels of your own choice, internal flights booked on line. Use local guides you can find on this forum.

Just look at other peoples questions and gleen all the information from them

Happy travels

You can book the tour for the first few days then DIY after that when you already know the country abit.

But it always differrent between having a guided tour and traveling by yourself with the lonely planet guide book.

It s all depends on what you like to do.

Phew yoandyfernandez, so many deleted posts - presumably by travel agents touting their services.

To go back to the start of the replies, you really can't expect to cram so many places into 17 days and get much from any of them.

For example Hanoi, Sapa and Halong Bay require a minimum of 7 days on their own - and yes, that is the absolute minimum - leaving just 10 days for all the other places you list. Simply can't be done if travelling time (slow in SE Asia) is taken into account, and even if that weren't a factor you would only have time for a fleeting glimpse of all of them before moving on.

Bearing the above in mind, it's up to you to decide which places to discard, based on your particular interests.

many thanks for your reply. what do you think we should delete from the initial itinerary based on your travels. we are least interested in touristy places and more interested in getting a true flair for the country. any guides that you can recommend? or agencies?
