Hi all,
I continue posting report part 2 about our trip to Phong Nha-Ke Bang National park in Quang Binh.
Second day: We had a very nice time in Sunspa resort with a spacious room and professional friendly staffs. That could meet our need after long day traveling. Sunspa resort's beach is very beautiful with wide white sand...etc. We had a brief meeting with General Manager Assistant Mr.Can to discuss about our plan before check out to go to Vinh Moc tunnels. He was very happy and respond to our plan.
We took the car go to Vinh Moc tunnels, it is 160km away from Dong Hoi and 60km from Hue city. Vinh MocVinh Moc is a tunnel complex in Quang Tri, Vietnam. During the Vietnam War it was strategically located on the border of North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The tunnels were built to shelter people from the intense bombing of Son Trung and Son Ha communes in Vinh Linh county of Quang Tri Province in the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone. It was constructed in several stages beginning in 1966 and used until early 1972. The complex grew to include wells, kitchens, rooms for each family and spaces for healthcare. Around 60 families lived in the tunnels; as many as 17 children were born inside the tunnels. We arrived in Vinh Moc tunnels after 1,5 hour on car. We came to by entrance ticket at tourist information office, I try to find someone there, some vendor told me that they were having lunch…
I found them and bought the tickets but there is no tourguide who took us to the tunnels at all. At the end we found a child, he was enthusiastic to guide us the way in the tunnels. You couldn’t visit the tunnels without the flashlight , some vendor could lend you without any fee, after using you could help them by some water or anything for them with the cheap price. I visited the museum here, it was quite small. It may be not invested much for maintaining. I wrote some comment to the museum that if they can showed the introduction words in english too. That made easy for foreigner to understand about Vietnammese history.
After saying goodbye with Vinh Moc we went to Cua Tung beach by the way coming back for having lunch there. We chose the restaurant next to the beach and had a luch with full sea food. It was quite cheap and very fresh because it was less tourist , we almost satisfied with the local sea food here. At 2:30PM we started coming back to Dong Hoi, on the way we stopped in Hien Luong bridge to take photo for a while - The historic Hiền Lương Bridge over the Bến Hải River, which served as a border between North and South Việt Nam between 1954 and 1975. We came back to Dong Hoi railways station at 4:00 PM , bought some food for our dinner on train. We had a meeting on train about our plan to develop adventure tours in Phong Nha – Ke Bang. We decided making our tour product including : car, kayak, bike cycle and trek in the trip. Customer will stay one night in homestay, 1 or 2nights in Sunspa resort depend on their option. Our friends will have many new information to write for their newspaper. Last of all we arrived in Hanoi around 5:30 Am , finishing our trip in a good result. We are planing to come back for the next trip.
Hope this help!
David
