Really Cheap Flights With air asia, is this genuine?

Hi all

I just found some really cheap flights to KL with air asia from the gold coast, has any one used these guys before and are they ok? I have never heard of them...

Do you think this is a legitimate deal and secondly can you get connecting flights from KL to Thailand? What is the travel safety of these guys like? (ie do they have a good history)

From Gold Coast to KUL, then from the same airport you can connect to Bangkok or Phuket with Air Asia also.

It is certainly a legitimate deal. I took advantage of their opening sale back in December last year which were similar price. We fly out on 6/9 and can't wait. Have spoken to 2 other people who have traveled AirAsia and they have raved about them. Remember they are a budget airline. But a good one apparently. No in flight entertainment as yet. They also won Airline if the year for 2007. Do a search through this forum and you can read more. Cheers. Jane

Don,t know what paper you read but Air Asia has been advertising flights from GC to KL for over a year.

We have flown twice paid $199 each. They have a special going today in the paper, have a look.

Planes are new, they have not had a crash.

You can get cheap flights to Thailand with them, but if you have a few days to spare have a look around Malayasia, our flights were on time, some complain of delays. Remember it is a budget air line, you pay for meals $7, extra baggage, and if you pick where you want too sit it also costs $7. still works out under half the price of major air lines.

Only thing I did not like was the seats are very hard.

They start in Nov from melbourne. There Kl terminal is very basic.

Air Asia is a low cost airline, but they provide good service. Absolutely no fringe benefits, pay for your bags and all inflight refreshments, but that is usually negligible compared to what you can save.

You can connect with them to Thailand, but they don't transfer baggage, you will have to reclaim it in KL and check in again for the Thailand flight.

Their planes are new and they have a good safety record.

Yes the Low Cost Terminal in KL is very basic, nothing like the Main Terminal building.

You get a couple cafes outside, a McD also outside. Once you are in the Dept Hall, you only get one Duty Free shop, One Cafe, Money Changer, toilets...you get WiFi there also, but quite slow.

Sometimes i find it HOT when it's crowded.

Yes May, it's fair dinkum, and having used them from the Gold Coast to Kuala Lumpur in April, I can testify that the service is very good & safe.

Pre-purchase your meals (asian is the best option), comfort kit, and checked baggage weight when you buy online. DO take something like an ipod or whatnot with you as there is absolutely NO onboard entertainment.

Also price the XL seats if you're so inclined, the price is often little more that an economy seat, and essentially you get a business class seat & personal space for the price.

Connecting flights (you still have to re-check baggage) to Bangkok are available and timed so a 3 hour layover is about the longest to expect. As for connections to Phuket they are not as convenient, but check for yourself online at their website.

There's a few pictures of the A330 cabin and XL seats to look at here;

hi hervey,

We are on the sunshine coast and being inexperienced travellers we have never done our own booking(always through travel agent, hence why we have never seen these guys before) What deal did they have in the paper, do they have dates that you have to travel in?

You guys have it easy. A flight from the US to BKK is $1700 USD. Stop whining. =)
