What is there to do in and around Bangkok?

We are a family with 3 children ages 5,10, and 14. We want to know what is there to do in and around Bangkok? How big is the area?

How far do you need to go to a nice beach?

Bangkok is really large and you found many things to do, ask the concierge of the hotel. Pattaya is only 2 hours drive and the beach of Jomtien, 5 km more far as Pattaya is not bad, but for found really nice beach with clear water, you have to go to Koh larn island, about 50-100 per person and 1 hours with boat, speed boat made only 20 minutes and cost about 1000 p,person.

After you do the touristy things in Bangkok you might consider taking a few days in Pattaya.

First, yes there are a lot of bars in Pattaya, just like you heard. But you can ignore or avoid them. The hotels and food are cheaper and the transportation is cheap too.

What can you do with the kids, like the prev. msg. said Jomtien beach is close by (20 baht on "baht bus.") Most of the hotels, even some of the cheap places have swimming pools. The kids would probably enjoy the "Ripley's believe it or not" museum and the movie theaters showing current movies real cheap. Many out of town tours can be arranged at one of the many travel agents you can easily find all over the place.

If you take a bus from the Ekamai Bus station (Skytrain stop) it would cost around 120 baht or less for the AirCon Vip bus. Or you can arrange for a ride at a travel agency, probably a van.

Pattaya Beach is okay for walking and sunning. Lots of street vendors, small shops, restaurants available.

Depends on your budget. Sometimes you can find a cheap Air-Con hotel with adjoining rooms and keep the kids in one room with their TV, toilet and shower and you and your husband have some privacy in the other room.
