Lot of controversy around JetSki Rentals in/around Pattaya. There are Jetski rental operators that will try to scam you claiming old damage and it could potentially cost you a lot of money especially if you agree to pay them off.
Certainly there are those here that recommend not renting JetSki's full stop, however that being said there are ways to minimize the chances of being scammed.
1. Note any damage prior and take pics. Have the lad flip it over so you can check the underneath as well.
2. Stay away from the coast, shallow water, boats, and other jetski(s) Do not even bump another jetski.
3. Even mention to the jetski lad about your concerns about being accused of damage prior to riding one.
4. Do not give correct contact details. (just in case they have ideas later)
5. Try to rent in a big group, idea of protection in numbers. 4/5 mates of yours ect.
6. Stay away from Soi8 Area of Beach Road - most of the scams seem to center on this area.
7. Don't allow them to hold your passport or watch your gear. (on occasion tourists have reported theft)
I know this is a bit of a hassle, but if you really want to ride one you must protect yourself.
Now 99.9% of the jetski lads are quite ok, but probability of running into the bad apples must be taken in account.
