Tours - Samui

Can anyone please give some reccomendation for tours at samui. We are mainly looking at tours that involve Snorkelling, kayaking, Swimming etc.

Also can anyone reccomend a local Travel Agent/Booth, we are staying at the Sala Samui (Choeng Mon beach)?

Also what is the best and cheapest way to get around on the island?

I would really appreciate any feedback regarding the above and thanks in advance.

Mr Klang at Matlang, just down the road, 1/2 way into Chaweng makes a great tour guide.

Cheapest way to get around the island is to hire (an unisured) scooter for about 200 baht per day, or hop on and off the Songthaews (truck taxis) for about 20 baht a trip.

When we were there in 2003 we did an organised tour via the hotel but unfortunately found it to be a way for some of the local traders to have a captive audience. We were taken by mini bus to a large shop full of carvings with an elephant display at the back and then onto the grandmother , grandfather rocks.

The next day we hired a jeep and drove round the island taking in many things mentioned in a guide book that we had taken with us, the golden budda, Mumified monk, Waterfalls, Uncle Ho's garden etc and found it to be a more pleasant experience. There were plenty of local businesses offering snorkelling kayaking etc but at that time we were more into relaxing.

The jeep was inexpensive but appeared to be just about road worthy.
