If had to get from Koh Samui to Phuket I would fly. Bangkok Airways.

Otherwise its a ferry and a bus. http://www.lomprayah.com/

It really depends on how much time you have. Flying will take about an hour and is about 3000 Baht. The ferry/bus combo will take 8 hours and cost 650 baht. In my opinion well worth paying to fly considering how much time it will save.

Phuket will also be in its rainy season and you will be much more likely to have good weather on the Gulf side of Thailand (Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Phangan) so it might be worth spending the majority of your time there rather than the Andaman side.

I would also fly, which costs around £50 per person.

You could do the ferry bus combo offered by Lomprayah.

Don't forget that Phuket is potentially more at risk of rain at this time of year.

Thanks everyone!

We are undecided whether to fly or take the adventure on the ferry!

We have heard that it only rains for a couple of hours at most and then its dry?

The 'adventure' is mostly on a pretty boring 5 or so hour bus ride - Lomprayah are the best option for this, avoid Pantip.

"We have heard that it only rains for a couple of hours at most and then its dry?" yes, usually this is true, but if you get unlucky it could rain and rain.
