We were in Koh Samui last week, and after much discussion we decided against hiring a car and opted to hire someone to show us around this beautiful island. Luckily I had internet access and searched through Trip advisor for recommendations.
My husband and I are so happy with our choice, Mr Samui, I emailed for a few details and then rang to confirm. This was done on the Monday, and our tour was for the following day. We went to the lookout, the Grandmother and Grandfather Rock, stopped for a few photo ops at beautiful beaches, went to the waterfall, and fed an elephant, you can ride them if you want to.
Had a great experience at the Mummified Monk, visited markets and finally the Chinese Buddha.
He knew so much about this island, and although he kept apologising for his English, which is quite good by the way, we learnt many things.
For lunch we were lucky enough for him to take us to a local Thai restaurant on the beach, and unfortunately not many more people will get to go there as the owner is retiring at the end of this week. We talked Mr Samui into joining us for lunch, and after some discussion he ordered us the best meal we could have had anywhere. Freshly cooked crabs, which Mr Samui showed us how to get into properly, lol, fish cakes with actual pieces of white fish in them, fried rice with crab, a whole cooked fish, a bowl of Tom Yum soup, coconut shells with spicy fish paste in them, vegetables and then followed by fresh fruit. We did not like to leave food uneaten in a country that lives on so little, but unfortunately even though we made quite a hole in it, we could not clean our plates. All this lovely authentic food and the most remarkable view, this makes it a 5 * experience.
Mr Samui also took us to a market where we were given samples of the local coconut caramel, and some beautiful cashew nuts, he also bought us some fresh pineapple, cold water and cool towels and took many photos of the two of us at the many places we visited.
Because of the great service we received we booked him to take us to the airport on the Thursday, but as he had another day tour he told us he would arrange for his brother to take us, and we were met by another friendly face in our lobby as we went to book out, and had another happy ride.
We certainly recommend Mr Samui and friends to take you on long or short drives on Koh Samui, and when we return we look forward to meeting up with our new friend.
