tipping

Can anyone advise me if it is acceptable to tip in usa$ and how much, in bangkok & koh samui as we would not like to offend any one if local cash would be better? Thanks

In Samui they'll take any western currency as a tip, but as monica says, the thai baht is best. Now, how much to tip and when,is an old chestnut on this forum and sure to create a debate. If any bill includes the full 17 per cent service and government taxes, don't tip at all unless the service was of unbelievably high quality.

Tipping in Thailand is not like in the USA,where it is expected. They do have the service charge but i normally just round up the price, mainly so i don't end up with a million coins.
