Please help me with my hotel - urgent response needed today

Hi All

I am looking at choosing one of the following hotels for my honeymoon in late July:

Budget option:

1. Imperial Samui (£45 per person per night)

2. Amari Palm (£50 per person per night)

Expensive:

3. Bo Phut Resort (£75 per person per night)

4. Tongsai Bay (£78 per person per night)

In all honesty, I am looking at one of the budget options. I dont really fancy spending the extra on Bo Phut or Tongsai Bay. I could use the extra cash for excursions and seeing the sights.

Can you please tell me the following:

1. The best budget option (Imperial or Amari?)

2. The best expensive option (Bo Phut or Tongsai?)

3. The overall best option - value for money.

Please consider the location of both resorts.

I dont want to be near a noisy part of the beach. Hence, I dont mind walking (10-15mins) to the shops providing the hotel is in a nice, relaxing area. After all, it is my honeymoon!!

Look forward to your responses

Thanks

I just went on the Amari Palm Reef website, filled the required dates on the availability table, it then shows availability and prices in dollars. It also shows you that there is 18% tax to add on.

Just got back from Koh Samui and Chaweng isn't even what i would call busy.......

I walked past the Amari everyday and it looks gorgeous. I stayed at the Kandaburi which was absolutely fabulous and i would recommend to anyone. Everything from the breakfast to the free upgrade and free early check-in at THREE AM was above and beyond what i expected. Beautiful pools and restaurants.

Oh dear, we've booked to stay in a Deluxe room at the Bandara resort. It sounds like the Amari Palm is the best choice. Help, have we made the wrong decision?

The Amari looks amazing but so does Tongsai Bay.

1. Amari - With the Amari, the Superior room only has a garden view. Does anyone know if this is this correct?

I think the Deluxe room ONLY offers a garden or beach view.

If the Superior rooms are beach/sea facing I would go for the Amari.

2. Tongsai - it appears that the Tongsai Bay is a very nice resort with a private beach.

I really would prefer a beach view for my purchase hence I may go towards Tongsai Bay.

3. Imperial - Offers a sea-facing room. I have scanned the web so much for pictures of the Imperial facilities (e.g. restaurants) and I cannot find much. Can anyone help?

Over to you again guys...

Hi dawpal,

Pls consider Imperial or Amari. Don't book at Tongsai bay or Bo Phut Resort. You will not feel comfortable there...

Hope this help..

Cheers !

If you are looking for a nice seaview it has to be Tongsai.

The resort is spread around a natural ampitheatre so the rooms are all elevated and have beautiful views of the beach and bay.

The cottage suites tend to look back up Choeng Mon beach which is just around the corner and the Grand Villas look more out to the sea, the Tongsai Website gives you a good idea of the views.

The beach front suites are in a two storey building looking straight out onto the beach, check it out at at;

The photo's in my view represent an honest impression of what you will find when you get to the resort.

If you are looking for a relaxing time away from the madness of the Chaweng area you will struggle to do better than the Tongsai, you are in a nice quiet area that has a handful of bars and restaurants in the Choeng Mon beach area and you are only a 10-15 minute cab ride to either Chaweng or Bophut Fishermans Village.

Feel free to throw any other questions at me.

Cheers

First can I apologise for my earlier completely snooty post - blame a glass of wine too many - truly sorry - note to self do not post pissed. BazDown 100% right for pointing this out. Hanging my head in shame so by way of a further apology thought would add a (hopefully) more constructive tuppenceworth.

You will have a blast at any of the hotels you have picked - all are lovely. It appears you are between the Tongsai and the Amari.

Tongsai is a truly beautiful location but could be described more as a destination hotel - that is you could easily go in the front door and not come out for a week. If you do venture out you will need to get a taxi or hotel car most places - particularly at night so you will be more reliant on (relatively) expensive (but good) hotel food. You do have the private beach but IMO it is just OK (golden and crunchy) and the best thing you can say about it is that it is private. The sea view is delightful. If you want a quiet honeymoon you will be in heaven.

The Amari is at the north end of Chaweng and away from the centre where the main nightlife is so don't let that worry you. The beach is beautiful(white and powdery) but very shallow so swimming is out. From the Amari you can walk to at least half a dozen decent restaurants and a myriad of local ones where you can eat for next to nothing. You can take long walks along the beach (where you will see all life - great fun) to the south of Chaweng in the evenings - lovely. You will get more of a feel for the island here and will have easier access to fun things like massages on the beach for 200 bhat. No view however and you may have to cross the road in Chaweng a few times.

If it were me and assuming you are here for more than a few days I would split my time between the two resorts and get the best of both worlds. I hope you have a great time.
